David McNeil
Artistic Director
Since 2019, David McNeil has led the Vittoria Ensemble in performances across Denver, including concerts at St. Dominic’s Church, Holy Ghost Church, and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. He also serves on the faculty of the Colorado Christian University School of Music as Director of Choral Studies and at Rockland Community Church as Choir Director. He is an active clinician across Colorado and the United States.
Previous to coming to Colorado, McNeil served as Principal Assistant Conductor to the Yale Camerata and Camerata Chamber Singers, Assistant Conductor of the Yale Glee Club, and as co-director for Yale Divinity School’s Marquand Chapel Choir. Previously, McNeil worked with the University Chorale, Conductors’ Chorus, All Campus Choir, and Opera Chorus at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, IN, where he earned a Master of Music degree in choral conducting. He has also served as choral director at several primary/secondary schools and churches in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.
An experienced vocalist, McNeil sang in the Yale Schola Contorum under David Hill and Masaaki Suzuki, performing throughout the Northeast and internationally, and in Indiana University’s NOTUS: Contemporary Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Dominick DiOrio. McNeil has prepared choruses for Marin Alsop, Marguerite Brooks, Jeffrey Douma, Arthur Fagen, and William Boughton.
As a scholar, McNeil’s interests include historical performance practice, keyboard continuo realization, and choral vocal pedagogy. He received the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the Yale School of Music and a Masters in Choral Conducting from Indiana University.
McNeil and his wife, Chelsey, a soprano in the Vittoria Ensemble, live in Wheat Ridge with their wonderful children.
